Good-bye, Buster. Yer a good ol' dog!We lost our dear Buster late in the spring to old age and old dog diseases (he was 14 and well beyond his time for a grayhound.)  It just two weeks after we’d lost my mother in-law to cancer. She was one of my bestest friends and a great cancer buddy.

The Cancer took them both: came quick and cut clean.

Bill and I were both devastated for months (and still I fear the worst of that darkness hasn’t fnished its chill and moved on.)

I think as much as we like to preach and craw about the ”unending and unquestioning love” of God (and mom!) we see it best when it is  time to  hold that old body close, still seeing him as if he was still the pup chewing up my cell phone (actually that was his younger brother and our “middle child” who has begrudgenly taken on the role of “Big Dog” in our house.)

I miss them both – Bill’s mom and our 14-year-old puppy and through both of those beloveds’ love for us, I am coming closer to learning the truth behind 1 John 4:16

… so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God …

So it is with those “Moms” out there who look after us all. And so it is with our beloved 14 year-old cell phone chewers, who grow up to be the steadiest and most loyal prayer partner there ever was.

Keep the faith!
 - Amen. And so it shall be!
